Pre-War Shelsley is a brand new event that will pick up where the much-loved Pre-War Prescott left off in 2023. Over more than twenty years, Pre-War Prescott became renowned for its relaxed garden party atmosphere, with the very minimum of fuss and red tape. That ethos has been carefully preserved and will become the hallmark of Pre-War Shelsley which will now become an annual event at this historic hillclimb venue – the oldest running on its original course in the world.
The Pre-War Shelsley hill climb on Saturday will be the highlight of a weekend of vintage motoring and socializing as we celebrate the cars that survived the War. Many cars were laid up for the duration of that conflict due to severe motoring restrictions, but many others provided vital transport services to our armed forces personnel, factory workers and many others who performed vital services in support of the war effort. Thankfully, after the War, many of the cars that were laid up were pulled out of sheds and resumed their service. Thankfully, thousands of them are still cherished and driven by enthusiasts up and down the country and, indeed, worldwide.
Friday
On Friday, the weekend will kick off with a lunch at the Morgan Car Company’s smart and fascinating Visitor Centre in Malvern, followed by a factory tour. The day will conclude with an International Reception at the Courtyard restaurant at Shelsley Walsh. There will also be a very special Founder’s Reception at the Shelsley cottages.
Saturday
Saturday will start bright and early at Shelsley Walsh where the first car will blast off the line at 9 a.m. sharp. The paddock will be filled with cars that will be climbing the hill during the day, while the Club Field adjacent to the start line will be packed with Edwardian, vintage and pre-war cars, special displays, trade stands and much more. And if we are lucky, we will be paid a visit during the day by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. After the hill closes at 5 p.m., the Courtyard restaurant will remain open in the evenings for hot meals and a full bar.
Sunday
Sunday will start early again at Shelsley Walsh where those cars entering the Three Counties Scenic Tour and parallel Navigation Rally will gather for breakfast and the navigators will plot their route for the day before heading out on a route that will take them via numerous hidden and quirky places of interest en route to a pub lunch. In the afternoon, the tour and navigation rally will continue to a conclusion with teas, the calculation of results and the bestowing of a number of prestigious prizes for the navigation rallyists. The weekend will conclude with a farewell run to a local pub.
